About Us
Japanese Karate Academy is a traditional Japanese Martial arts dojo established by John Hileman, a Firefighter and Paramedic in the Johnson County area.
My goal is to instill the spirit and honor of traditional budo
and encourage every student to not only exceed their expectations,
but mine as well. Our style is based on the techniques and training of
Shindo-Jinen Ryu, Shotokan, Jujitsu, and Aikido,
but with self-defense adapted
to the unfortunate reality of today's society.
Though our focus is on self-defense, we also devote significant
time to conditioning and sport competition.

2024 was a wonderful year for the JKA. We've met and made a ton of new friends and unfortunately saw a few old friends move on.
We face 2025 with hope and optimism. There are a few changes coming up that will hopefully make our training better and classes more productive and fun.
The schedule is changing slightly as I continue to look for best fit for all of you AND my work schedule.
We will be pushing for more attention to the adult class on Thursday nights and hopefully build that into a fun and intense workout.
We will also host an assortment of guest instructors including sessions with teachers in Yoga, wrestling, BJJ, and other martial arts styles.
The more you sweat in training,
the less you bleed in combat!
